We go out of our way to carry every major line of Pontiac Firebird chips, so that whether you are looking for a Jet performance chip or a Hypertech power programmer or a Diablosport chip or anything in between, we've got it for you. Andy's Auto Sport is the ultimate shopping destination for your Pontiac Firebird performance chip needs!

WHY TO BUY?
A new performance chip improves power, torque, and fuel economy by changing your timing, fuel curves, redline, and even shift points where applicable. These improvements can net a substantial increase in performance with minimal effort, as performance chips are among the easiest modifications to install. What's more, a new performance chip can be one of the most cost-effective improvements you can make to your ride, and will complement any other performance mods you might already have.

In the world of modern fuel injection computers are king. But just because you can't tune your fuel injected vehicle with a screw driver doesn't mean that you have to give up on tuning altogether. Aftermarket power programmers allow you to work with your vehicle's ECU to custom tune air/fuel ratios so that you can maximize performance and efficiency. Here at Andy's Auto Sport we have a fantastic selection of power programmers from all of the leading brand names so that you are sure to find the perfect set up to achieve your goals. Whether you want improved mileage, better low down torque or increased top end, power programmers are just what the doctor ordered.
DID YOU KNOW?
Some performance chips, ECUs, and programmers are so effective at increasing power that it is recommended to also upgrade your valvetrain in order to safely handle your engine's new output, although this change is usually reserved for more aggressive performance chips. In some instances, your factory chip is reprogrammed via a performance programmer/tuner, and can allow for different "stages" of upgraded power characteristics.

Most vehicles come from the factory with fuel mapping that is extremely rich. This is done as a way of idiot proofing cars to keep the motors safe from people who recklessly thrash their rides. However in most cases it is possible to tune the mixture a bit leaner while still maintaining safe parameters. A leaner mixture means increased power and can also improve fuel mileage. The best part is it all happens with a few clicks of a button, and if you want to return your vehicle to stock, these setups are simple to unhook. Step into the world of 21st century tuning with power programmers.
FAQ's
Q: What is a performance chip? Why buy one?
A: Most modern vehicles use computer controlled engine management systems that actively adjust things like ignition timing and fuel delivery to keep your vehicle running efficiently. However many factory systems are tuned conservatively for normal road driving and to keep a high margin of safety for the engine. Performance chips can be added to your vehicle to give a more aggressive state of tune for improved power and performance. With more aggressive ignition advance curves and leaner air/fuel ratios it is possible to see large gains in horse power and torque. The best part is you do not have to make any internal engine modifications to see these gains. Simply add your performance chip and you are ready to go. And if you wish to sell your vehicle you can easily return your vehicle’s ecu to its original programming.

Q: Are power programmers truly "plug-and-play"?
A: Vehicle-specific Power Programmers are truly plug-and-play. Simply attach the programmer to your vehicles ECU or DLC (Data Link Connector). No tools are required, and the programmer will come with instructions. If the programmer is universal, it has to be spliced into your factory ECU.

Q: What is a power programmer? Why buy a power programmer?
A: Power programmers are a very easy way to add more power to your vehicle. A power programmer modifies your vehicle's computer (ECU). It changes the fuel curves and timing map to increase fuel and air flow, which makes more power. The programmers are extremely user friendly, and when you first install it, most programmers prompt you with mundane questions like, how many cylinders does your car have, do you plan on heavy loads, etc. With all the info it programs the ECU to give your vehicle more power. What's so great about these programmers is you don't need to be an automotive expert to get horesepower from these things. You just take the programmer out of the package, plug it in, answer the questions the prompted on the screen of the programmer, and then your car will go faster. It's that simple. If you're looking for easy horsepower and torque gains for your truck or looking to take the next step in performance tuning, then buy a power programmer.

Q: How do you install a power programmer?
A: Most power programmers have one cable running from the back of the programmer to the vehicles ECU (Electronic Control Unit), which is often found underneath the passenger side dash. The other place programmers run, depending on your vehicle, is to the DLC (Data Link Connector) which is often under the driver's side dash panel. Once you locate your unit, it's simply a plug-and-play application. Both the ECU and the DLC have ports that the programmers plug into. If it's a universal programmer, you'll have to splice it into the wiring for your factory ECU. It's best to have the installation of a universal programmer left to the pros unless you are very handy under the hood.

Q: Are power programmers universal, or made specifically for my vehicle?
A: Both types exist. Some companies, such as Unichip, specifically pre-tune the programmers for your vehicle after having done countless tests to tune it in the way that makes the most horsepower possible. Other companies make a universal programmer that gives you the tools to tune it to your vehicle yourself. The universal ones will definitely dramaticaly increase your horsepower, but they haven't been fine tuned in detail to by a professional to give you the absolute maximum gains you can get out of a programmer. But again, even if the programmer is universal, using it still allows you to 'communicate' to your car to increase the fuel and air flow, and so you will get very noticeable power gains. To know if a programmer listed on our website is universal or specifically engineered for your car, look at the 'fits on' section next to the product listing.

Q: What is the difference between a piggy-back programmer and a stand-alone programmer?
A: A piggy-back programmer is meant to interface with your factory ECU. A stand-alone programmer is meant to replace your factory ECU.

Q: Is a power programmer the same as a computer chip?
A: It accomplishes the same thing as an aftermarket computer chip. The difference is that power programmers are made to interface with your existing factory computer chip, and are generally only available for more modern vehicle. For older generation vehicles, aftermarket computer chips are available that directly replace your factory ECU. Even though technically a programmer is not a computer chip per se, they both accomplish the same thing, and many people sometimes loosely use the word computer chip to refer to a programmer.
